What is Micro-Needling?
Is Micro-Needling right for me?
Micro-needling, (aka Collagen Induction Therapy) is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure that uses a device containing fine needles. It has been a standard procedure in Europe for decades. The tiny needles are used to puncture the surface of the skin to create a controlled injury. Each puncture creates a channel triggering the body to heal and fill these microscopic wounds by producing collagen and elastin.
Results offer improvement in skin texture, firmness, and overall appearance.
Micro-Needling is also effective at reducing scars and discoloration on photo aged skin. This treatment has become one of our favorite "anti- aging & skin polishing" techniques to improve the skin’s overall appearance and quality.
What will I feel?
Your skin will be numbed with a topical agent for 20-30 minutes prior to treatment, making microneedling virtually pain free. You will feel and hear the vibration of the device as it moves across your skin.
After your treatment, your skin will be red and feel warm/ hot. Some people claim they feel like they have a sunburn. This is normal and will kick start your skin into "healing" mode to produce collagen & elastin.
Are Microneedling treatments safe?
The difference between receiving a Micro-Needling treatment in a medical office and using a Derma Roller at home is significant. Treatments performed in a medical office are done in a controlled setting by a medical professional. Derma Rollers used at home do not have controlled puncture depths, are not sterilized and put you at risk for infection. Micro-Needling is not a "one size fits all" treatment. The device used in our office has different depth settings that are adjusted in order to customize treatments for each patient. This reduces down time and optimized your results.
What can I expect after treatment?
One of the many reasons patients choose this treatment is because there is little to no downtime. You will be red immediately after treatment, but typically this resolves in 1-2 days. Mild swelling can also occur and usually lasts less than 24 hours. It is important to remember that each patient is different, and each healing process is different. Our Micro-Needling device can be used all over the body, but the face, neck, and chest are the most treated areas.
