What is ClariVein?

ClariVein is a technology that uses sclerotherapy to cause a chemical injury to the vein wall along with a mechanical trauma to that vein wall to effectively seal closed the vein and stop the reflux. This technique minimizes the need for local anesthesia in closing a refluxing trunk vein because there is no heat involved in the treatment.

How does it work?

ClariVein is done in the office using only a tiny amount of local anesthesia. The ClariVein device is inserted into the target vein as a catheter. A rapidly spinning angled wire at the tip of the catheter causes trauma to the inside of the vein while a sclerosant medication is injected simultaneously. This creates the mechanical-chemical injury which scars the trunk vein closed. The trauma, which cannot be felt, increases the effectiveness of the sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy has been used for decades to treat vein problems of all kinds.

What should I expect with the procedure?

Patients will feel a slight "buzzing" in the thigh as the treatment progresses, but there is little discomfort. No downtime is required and patients may quickly resume normal activity.

Why Capitol Vein & Laser Centers?

Use of ClariVein by experienced vein doctors is growing across the country and Capitol Vein & Laser has extensive experience with this technique. While there is currently no long-term data on the effectiveness of ClariVein, short-term results may be comparable to established thermal energy treatment devices (VNUS Closure and laser). ClariVein is one of the treatments we offer. Our physicians will consider your unique patient variables and vein characteristics and will discuss the optimal method of treatment for you.
