Wrinkles get most of the attention, but they aren’t the only imperfection that can make you look older or feel self-conscious about your appearance. Freckles, broken blood vessels, acne scars, age spots and other blemishes can take a serious toll on your self-esteem and make you long for the days when you could confidently go without using makeup or clothing to conceal your skin.

Many skin conditions manifest in the form of abnormal blood vessels or pigmentation. Although they rarely pose a threat to your health, these conditions can have a major impact on your quality of life. The cosmetic team at Capitol Vein & Laser Centers utilizes the XEO laser platform for skin rejuvenation and the treatment of various pigment and vascular concerns.

What is XEO™?

The XEO is a completely customizable laser and light-based system that addresses unwanted pigment, vascular concerns, and other signs of aging. Developed by Cutera, this laser light-based system is optimized to treat the widest range of today’s most common nonsurgical aesthetic concerns—veins, rosacea, wrinkles, and unwanted hair.

How does it work?

The XEO uses a laser beam that targets blood vessels and pigment in the skin. When we use the XEO laser for broken capillaries, the laser is absorbed by an abnormal blood vessel and the light is converted into heat energy, which causes the vessel to collapse and seal shut. Eventually, the unwanted vessel is absorbed by the body and the skin returns to its natural color. Pigmented lesions are treated with the Limelight handpiece. The light is absorbed by cells containing excessive concentrations of pigment (melanin) and generates heat. The pigmented lesion reacts by darkening at first, then flaking off to restore an even, natural skin tone. The Prowave handpiece is used for laser hair removal on most skin types.

What Conditions Does XEO Treat?

The XEO can safely and effectively treat a wide range of vascular lesions, benign pigmented lesions, and unwanted hair. XEO has been shown effective in improving the following conditions:

  • Acne scars
  • Age/brown spots
  • Angiomas
  • Compromised skin
  • Deep dermal heating
  • Hair removal
  • Lentigines
  • Photodamage
  • Rosacea
  • Scar reduction
  • Sun spots
  • Veins on face
  • Venous lakes

Why Choose XEO to Treat These Concerns?

For women and men seeking nonsurgical solutions to their cosmetic concerns, laser treatments can deliver outstanding results with little to no downtime. The XEO is considered the gold standard in laser treatment thanks to its numerous advantages for patients:

  • Nonsurgical treatments performed in the comfort of our office
  • Versatile system that is customized to the patient’s specific needs
  • Adjustable spot size enables precise and effective treatment with integrated cooling technology to optimize patient comfort and safety
  • No incisions, stitches or downtime
  • Some patients see significant improvements after just one treatment

What Is XEO Treatment Like?

When you visit your local Capitol Vein & Laser Center, you will first have a consultation to determine if treatment with XEO is right for you. Your cosmetic provider will use this time to examine your skin and discuss your goals, and to select the appropriate treatment settings for your concerns. XEO treatments do not require topical numbing. Your cosmetic provider will pass the handpiece over your skin while it delivers pulses of laser light to the targeted pigment or blood vessel. Some patients feel a sting, similar to the snap of a rubber band against the skin, or a warming sensation during the procedure. The device contains a built-in cooling mechanism that protects your skin and minimizes discomfort for the duration of the treatment.

What Should I Expect After XEO?

After an XEO session, you may experience redness and/or swelling in the treated area. These effects usually resolve within a day or two and do not prevent patients from wearing makeup or returning to their regular activities. If you are using the XEO laser for pigmentation, the treated pigmented lesions will darken and slough off within a week or two.

How Effective Is XEO?

The XEO laser system can treat most areas of the body and can address multiple skin concerns in one session. The number of treatments necessary to accomplish your goals will depend on various parameters, including the condition being treated, the size of the area and your skin type. Your cosmetic provider will advise you of how many treatments you may need at your initial consultation.

Am I a Good Candidate for the XEO Laser?

A wide range of people are candidates for this laser skin treatment. If you’re looking for a noninvasive way to improve rosacea or generalized redness, remove pigmented age spots or sun spots, the XEO may be right for you.

What is Laser Genesis and How Does It Work?

Another unique component of the XEO is Laser Genesis, a non-ablative treatment that works by mildly heating the upper dermis – the middle layer of your skin. This, in turn, stimulates the growth and production of collagen. The laser also targets small facial capillaries which helps to diminish redness and improve rosacea. Over the course of several treatments, Laser Genesis can rejuvenate the skin and restore a youthful glow and appearance. The results are subtle, but a series of treatments can result in a dramatic change in the youthfulness and clarity of your skin’s appearance.

During the procedure, you’ll experience a gentle warming of the skin’s surface. Our patients often describe the procedure as relaxing and restorative. You may be asked to wear protective goggles during your treatment as a precaution. There is no downtime and you may resume normal activity right away.

What Does Laser Genesis Treat?

  • Rosacea
  • Enlarged pores
  • Uneven texture
  • Fine lines
  • Redness
