What is VNUS Closure?
VNUS Closure is a very effective method for treating venous insufficiency, the primary cause of varicose veins. This minimally invasive procedure has dramatically changed the treatment of varicose veins. VNUS Closure is considered the gold standard by which all other approaches are measured.
How does it work?
In VNUS Closure, radiofrequency heat energy is used to seal the vein. A small catheter is inserted into the trunk vein and directed to the treatment area. Heat from the radiofrequency energy cauterizes the wall of the vein causing the vein to contract and seal shut. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia in the office. Most patients drive themselves to the appointment and return to work promptly.
What should I expect after the procedure?
The VNUS Closure results in no scarring and minimal to no bruising. Patients can resume normal activities and return to work immediately following the procedure. Patients are encouraged to walk and be active, but to refrain from strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for three days.
